Introduction: Embroidered Chain Bracelet

About: Hi! I'm a slightly feral mountain hermit that likes to be helpful. I do community management at Instructables & Tinkercad. 🙌 Want to hear me chat about making? Search "CLAMP Podcast" on YouTube or your favorit…
This is a really simple way to spruce up a basic chain bracelet. I'm not a big fan of chunky jewelry, so this is a nice way to add some color without adding bulk. :D

All you need is some embroidery floss or thin yarn and you're ready to make a whole new bracelet!

Step 1: What You'll Need:

  • embroidery floss
  • thick chain (1/8-1/4 inch wide)
  • embroidery needle
  • jump rings
  • closures
  • glue (optional, but helpful!)
  • measuring tape or ruler
I got both silver tone and gold tone chain and chose embroidery floss that complemented them. :)

Step 2: Measuring and Cutting

Measure your wrist - mine is 6 inches around. I cut my chain to 6.5 inches - you always want to go a little longer - it'll help you get the bracelet on easier later. :D

Now cut a piece of embroidery floss that's double the length of your chain.

Step 3: Attach the Jump Ring + Closure

Attach a lone jump ring to one end of the chain, and then attach a jump ring and the closure to the other end.

Step 4: Tie on the Embroidery Floss

I like to tie the first link of chain to the jump ring on the end. Make a few knots and then cut the short end of the string. You can add a drop of glue here for extra security. :)

Step 5: Thread the Needle and Embroider!

Pull the thread in and out of the links, being careful to go all the way through the link and not get it tangled. It's like a running stitch, but wil go a little slower. :D

I like to only do one link at a time, trying to get multiple links on the needle caused tangling. Keep going until you reach the other end, and then tie it off again like we did at the beginning. :)

Step 6: And You're Done!

You can see here that I didn't use a long enough piece of embroidery floss the first time I tried this, but I really like it anyway! :D
