About: My whole life I have thought of ways to make things that you can only go out and buy, follow me and I will teach you how to make all sorts of things. Praise carbon!
Before I start I would like to thank all my followers for their continuous support, I would also like to thank all my viewers who are willing to take time out of their day to view the things that I make. I just joined instructibles a couple months ago, and it has been nothing but a wonderful experience, so for that I say thank you instructables for allowing me to be apart of this community.

Here's a fun, easy, and effective way to build an old style oil lamp. I'm sure your probably wondering how does it work? Well I'm so glad you asked, it's quite simple actually as the oil saturated wick burns it, the pressure changes in the tip of the wick causing more oil to flow up to replace the burned oil. This oil lamp is great If you get lost, are having a party and want an interesting conversation starter, Or in my case, the power goes out and you need a light. Well here it is the improvised oil lamp

Step 1:

Start by assembling the materials needed:
  • 2x pop cans
  • Electrical tape
  • Cooking oil( Olive Oil preferably )
  • A nylon core, cotton exterior rope
  • Sand paper
  • Scissors

Step 2:

Fill one of the pop cans halfway full with the oil.

Step 3:

Bend the tab up.

Step 4:

Stick the wick inside the can with the oil.

Step 5:

Feed the wick through the tab of the pop can as shone.

Step 6:

To refill it pull the end that sits on the oil up and out, then poor in the oil.

Step 7:

To finish up take the other pop can and cut off the bottom, Now it can act as a way to extinguish it. To hold the cap on use some of the electrical tape and wrap it around the the two cans to hold them together as shone In the the picture below. I took some sand paper and sanded the paint off but this is of course optional, another thing that you could do is paint it with spray paint to customize it to fit your likeing.

If you made this yourself then I want to see it, leave a photo in the comments below. For all my followers I say thank you for the support. Don't forget to vote for me in the  outdoor survival contest, thank you.
