Hi, guys! Christmas holidays are finally over and it’s high time to get ready to another holiday, which is so popular nowadays. The holiday I’m talking about is St. Valentine’s Day! There is hardly a person, who doesn’t like it. And it’s no wonder, because this is the most romantic occasion, which is celebrated by people, who are in love. St.Valentine’s Day is marked on February, 14 all over the world and there are so many traditions associated with this romantic holiday. Everyone knows about the tradition to exchange Valentine cards, chocolates, sweets and flowers, but it is much more pleasant to get handmade souvenirs from someone you love. In this Instructable, I’m eager to share the secrets of making… a cute wish jar for St.Valentine’s Day. Are you intrigued? Let’s get started then!

Step 1: Supplies

To make a wish jar for your loved one, you will need the following supplies:

  • A glass jar
  • Scissors
  • A pencil
  • A sponge
  • Paper
  • Glue
  • Adhesive paper
  • Acrylic base or white acrylic paint
  • Red-colored décor elements, line ribbons, raffia, a wooden heart etc.

Step 2: Prepare the Glass Jar

To prepare your glass jar for making the souvenir, you should carefully wash it to get rid of all the stickers, labels and other unnecessary elements. Then you should ungrease the jar using a dishwashing detergent. Take a
sheet of office paper, draw the heart on it and cut it out. A piece of advice: to make the heart symmetric, fold the sheet into halves and draw a half of it first. Unfold the sheet of paper then and cut out the heart watching the contours.

Step 3: Cut Out the Adhesive Heart

Take a sheet of adhesive paper, press the heart you have just cut out to it, draw the contours with a pencil and cut it out as well.

Step 4: Stick the Heart to the Jar

Remove the protective layer from the adhesive paper heart and stick it to the glass jar.

Step 5: Cover the Jar With White Paint

Take a sponge, acrylic base or white paint and carefully cover the surface of the jar with it. As soon as you are done with painting, leave the jar to dry out well.

Step 6: Remove the Heart Sticker

When the glass jar dries out, remove the heart sticker and… voila! A small “window” is ready!

Step 7: Decorate the Jar

It is high time to decorate the jar now. Attach the ribbons with the glue or the double-sided adhesive tape. Don’t forget to decorate the lid. You just need to write wishes or other pleasant words you would like to tell to your special someone. Write them on small pieces of paper, fold or bind them and fill the jar! Such a souvenir will be a great surprise for your loved one – the one he/she will remember forever!
