Introduction

The purpose of my dog treats is to teach any person or child with parental help, who want to keep their pets healthy, how to make yummy dog snacks. This recipe will take a new comer approximately 10-15 minutes to prepare and about 25-30 minutes to bake. As you become more comfortable with the procedure you will see you will cut your time in half on the preparation time. This is a fun activity for parents to do with their kids and is a good way to get them active in cooking and learning about the kitchen.

Step 1: Step 1: Gather Materials

First you will need to gather up all your materials including:

whole wheat flour
powdered dry milk
garlic powder
brown sugar or honey
meat or bacon drippings (bacon, ham, ground beef etc)!
eggs
Ice water
Oil olive

You will also need to gather small mixing bowls (2 bowls will be fine) and a spatula or cooking utensil that you prefer to use when mixing all ingredients together. You will also need a cookie sheet to place the cookies on for cooking and a cookie cutter if you want to be creative and make different shaped cookies.

Step 2: Step 2: Preparation of Bake Ware

You will need to:

Preheat the oven to 350F
Lightly Oil the cookie sheet

Step 3: Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients

You will need to grab one of your two bowls and mix these ingredients together:

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup powdered dry milk
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
6 tbs. meat or bacon drippings (ham, bacon, ground beef etc.)

*Important: Make sure the meat you chose to use is cold right from the refrigerator. It is not supposed to be melted or soft!

Step 4: Step 4: Add Wet Ingredients

Now take your other bowl and mix together your wet ingredients. These ingredients include:

1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 cup Ice water

Step 5: Step 5: Prepare Dough and Cookie Sheet

After preparing both your wet and dry ingredients it is now time to add them together.

Take your cookie sheet and lightly coat the bottom of the pan
use your fingers to pat out dough onto cookie sheet to 1/2" thick

a. if you want to cut dough into squares you can and they should be appropriate for your dogs size.

*Important: Make sure when adding the wet ingredients you add as much water to the whole mixture to get them to form a ball. Don't add to much water or they will be very liquidity.

Place either the cut out cookies or just ball shaped cookies on the cookie sheet.

Step 6: Step 6: Bake Treats

Place the cookie sheet into the oven

Let bake for 25-30 minutes

When finished cooking let the cookies sit and cool before you let your pooch try one.

*Caution: When removing the cookies from the oven use an oven mit for it will be very hot. Also keep your face away from the opening of the oven; it will be hot!
