Introduction: Colored Pencil Secret Compartment

This is a box of colored pencils, with a secret compartment inside, I used mine to hide my phone.

This is my first post, I hope you enjoy!

Step 1: Materials

You will need:
- Box of colored pencils
- Cardboard
- A sticky note or piece of paper
- A hot glue gun with glue
- Around 30 minutes

Step 2: Make the Tiny Pencils

This is the main part of the build. To make the row of colored pencils, you will need to shorten the pencils. The way that I did this was to snap the pencil close to the bottom, then sharpen them down so they were about an inch and a half. You will probably want to use a handheld sharpener, because you can sharpen tiny pencils, like these. The pencils do not have to all be the same length, in fact, it looks more realistic if they are not.

Step 3: Connecting the Pencils

Now, it’s time to connect the pencils. To do this, you need your hot glue gun, and a strip of cardboard as long as all the pencils lined up vertically. With the glue gun, dab a bit of glue on the bottom and one side of each pencil, doing one at a time, and stick it onto the strip of cardboard. The glue on the bottom will be on the cardboard, and the glue on the sides will connect the pencils to one another.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

If the object(s) you want to hide in this extend past the visible crescent shape in some boxes, cover the hole with a sticky note or a piece of paper with tape. Now, all you have to do is put the pencils in. If the strip of cardboard with the pencils isn’t fitting, you have to trim the edges of the cardboard so it will fit better.

Step 5: Done!

Now you have a colored pencil box with a empty compartment. You can use this to store keys, money, wallet, candy, or whatever you want. I personally designed mine for fitting my phone, so I had to measure the pencils to make sure they would fit.

Have fun!
