Introduction: DIY Receipt Organiser

Fun and function is a nice combination. Therefore I decided to make this little receipt organiser to get my finances sorted and to spend some time working on my crafting skills. This receipt organiser can help you to keep all the receipts organised for when you might need them. For a procrastinator like me this is a handy craft, so I know where all my money has gone when I want to note it down somewhere.

The materials needed are:

  • 5 A4 papers with the template on it.
  • Cardboard for the cover
  • Tape
  • Glue

Step 1: Cut Out the Template

Print the template by clicking on the provided attachment:

Now cut out the template using scissors or knife. Do not cut the dotted lines. These need to be folded later. I printed out five of these to make five compartments of out them.

Step 2: Crease the Lines

Crease the dotted lines so that you can fold them easier. This also ensures that the lines are straight. You can crease the lines using the back of a scissor and a ruler.

Step 3: Fold the Template

Fold the creased lines so that the template looks like it does on the picture.

Step 4: Glue the Template Together

Now glue together the template using enough glue so that the template won't fall apart easily. Don't glue the flap that blocks the open side of the envelope. This is here to prevent stuff from falling out.

Step 5: Glue All Templates Together

Now it is time to decide how many templates you want to use. I used five templates. I glued them on top of each other with all the flaps facing the same direction.

Step 6: Make the Cover

The cover of the book is made of an old shoe box of which the cardboard is about 2mm. The cover that I made has a 0.5cm overlap on all sides. The height of the parts is 16cm, the width of the front and back side is 11cm and the width of the middle part is 2cm. These cover parts are attached to each other by tape. I used hinge tape since it is very durable. Leave about 2mm between the sides when you tape them together so that the parts have space to move.

Step 7: Glue the Cover Onto the Folded Templates

The folded templates now have to be glued to the inside of the cover. Use enough glue so the book will be durable. The folded templates should be placed so that the cover overlaps all sides with about 0.5cm.

Step 8: The DIY Receipt Organiser Is Finished!

Now you can store your receipts in a place where you won't loose them!
