Hibiscus Tea With Fresh Flowers and Honey

People make Hibiscus tea with dried flower petals bought from stores or stored in containers. But Hibiscus tea can be made from fresh flowers also. If you have a Hibiscus plant at home, you can harvest the matured flowers and make tea whenever yo like. Red colored Hibiscus flowers are mostly preferred for making tea

In this instructable I will show you how to make hibiscus tea with fresh flowers with honey

Step 1: Harvest Flowers

Harvest five to six fresh Hibiscus flowers from the plant. The matured flowers will show signs of curling at the edges and small change in color from red to dark. You can make about 2 to 3 cups of tea from these flowers

Step 2: Clean the Flowers

First remove any leaves, stem and seed pods from the flowers
Separate the petals and keep aside

Step 3: Other Ingredients

4 to 5 teaspoons of Honey
A small piece of Cinnamon stick
A small piece of dried Ginger
2 to 3 Black Pepper corns
1 piece of clove

Step 4: Crush Ingredients to Powder

Take all these ingredients like cinnamon, dried ginger, Black pepper corns and clove in a mortar and pestle and lightly crush them

Step 5: Boil Hibiscus Petals

Rinse the Hibiscus petals in clean water and transfer to a pot for boiling
Add enough water for making 2 to 3 cups of tea. Do not add too much water
Add crushed ingredients to water and start boiling

Step 6: Filter the Hibiscus Tea

Once the water starts to boil, keep it on stove for another five to six minutes. You need not boil the petals more than that. Within this time all essence from the flowers will get into the boiling water and the petals will change light in color
Using a Tea filter, filter out the Tea and discard the remains
