How to Write a Song

Have you ever wanted to write a song but you think it's too hard?

Writing a song is a lot easier than people would think, let me explain the process I use.

Step 1: Materials

- Pen or Pencil

- Paper

- Idea

- An Instrument (only if you want to)

Step 2: Lyrics

Lyric's are the words that the singer sings. Although often added on as an afterthought by newcomers to songwriting, your lyric can be the most important aspect of your song. Weak words can irritate even the most casual of listeners. Strong lyrical ideas engage the listener's imagination and can be as exciting as watching a movie

Step 3: Structuring the Song

This is how I like to structure my songs:

Verse 1

Chorus

Verse 2

Chorus

Bridge

Chorus

Of course you don't have to structure your song that way.

And...

The song does not have to rhyme, however, that typically makes it more catchy.

Step 4: Verse 1

A song usually has two or three verses. These are sections of the song that develop a common theme, such as unrequited love, or move the story of the song forward.

Step 5: Chorus 1

Choruses are not written to be sung in groups but are the musical highlights of the song; the parts that the listener can remember after only one hearing. It is the repetition of the simple musical and lyrical idea in the choruses through the song that helps to make it catchy.

Step 6: Verse 2

Okay, so, Verse 2 is basically the same as Verse 1 EXCEPT, you will change the lyrics.

Step 7: Chorus 2

On the 2nd Chorus you repeat the 1st Chorus. That's how it is in most songs.

Step 8: Bridge

A Bridge is called because it is a section in a song that tends to happen towards the middle of the song.

For a great Bridge try changing the keys.

Step 9: Chorus 3

This step is the same as Chorus 2 so no need in explaining I guess.
