Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite movies and also very popular in pop culture conventions. Since I'm making some for an upcoming con. I documented a tutorial to share for the fans of the character and the movie. I hope you can try it out.
Step 1: Materials
- Polymer Clay (Oven baked modelling clay) Colors: white, black, purple
- Clay tools: ball tools, needle tool, acrylic roller
- Liquid clay
- Mica powder - Lavender color
- paint brush
- Acrylic paint
- Metal Brooch frame
Step 2: Preparing the Brooch
To add a background to the brooch, impress it on a piece of purple clay and cut out that piece with a knife. Put some liquid clay on the frame and press the clay on it.
Step 3: Sculpting Jack
Put a thin rope of white clay on the frame for his neck then shape a round piece for his head. Make a slit for the mouth and put in a thin piece of black clay.
Attach the head on top of the neck and indent the eye sockets and nostrils with a ball stylus. Put in black pieces of clay in the sockets and blend it in the sockets. Make indentations for his teeth with a needle tool.
To make his bat tie, freehand the shapes shown on the 6th photo. Cut these out and attach to the sides of the neck. It's best to have the clay within the boundaries of the brooch to prevent it from breaking off. Then make a small round shape and 2 small triangular shapes for the bat's head and attach below the neck.
Add some lavender mica powder to the purple background to give it some shimmer.
Bake the piece in an oven based on your clay manufacturer's directions. I baked mine for 130 degrees celsius for 30 minutes.
You can add some thinned out black or gray acrylic paint on the mouth to accentuate his teeth.
