Introduction: Open Corner Weld

How can two pieces of metal can be fused together? Or, have you ever wanted to learn how to fuse two pieces of metal together? Hi, I am Chance Larson and I am going to teach you how to weld an open corner joint weld. I have practice and experience in many types of welds, but I’m going to show you one in particular called an open corner weld. There are just three simple steps on how to do an open corner weld, with the first step being shear the metal to the appropriate length, then tac it up to a 90 angle, clamp the metal to the post, and finally weld down in a vertical angle. Continuing reading if you have always wanted to learn how to fuse two metals together.

Step 1:

The first step in starting an open corner weld is to pick out your piece of metal and shear it. You want to set the shear to the right length and that is six inches by an inch and a quarter. Shearing is where a blade cuts the piece of metal to the appropriate length that you want it.

Step 2:

The second step is to turn on the welding machine to setting five after that is done have the wire speed to 300, and the volts to 17.5. Then put the ground clamp on the post for a good connection.

Step 3:

The third step is to tack your metal. Place the inner corner edges of the two pieces of metal next to one another to make a 90-degree angle. Make sure there is no opening between the two pieces that are tacked together. Once the metal is in tack position, clamp the pieces of metal vertically down on the post. The post is what you weld on.

Step 4:

The final step is to weld your two pieces of metal together in a vertical down position. Once you are done welding the two pieces together, you will have your finished product.
