Dragon Bone sword

In this instructable I will show you how to make your very own dragon bone sword (From Skyrim). it is not a very long process but it can be if you would like to make the weapon more detailed. The tools I have used are flexible and you can use alternatives if you find it easier (or don't have the tools available).

Tools
Hot Wire Cutter
Glue Gun
Wet and Dry Paper
Paint Brushes

Materials
25mm Styrofoam
Acrylic Paints
PVA Glue
Newspaper
Masking Tape

Step 1: Trace

Start off by drawing up and then printing off the template for the sword. I used 2D Design to do this. Once you have it printed out trace it onto the Styrofoam. When tracing I would use the masking tape to attach the template to the foam. The templates I used have the blade and the handle separate as well as the small details.

Step 2: Cut

Now you have the template drawn on you can now use the hot wire to cut around the templates. once you have cut around the templates you will have the blade and the handle. Now you need to cut the blade down. take off a bit off the thickness. I cut it down to be 10mm thick. now you need to cut out of the handle so the blade can be slid in. you should end up with a handle that looks similar to the picture above. also you need to cut out the circle at the bottom of the handle.

Step 3: Assemble

Now you should be ready to assemble. if you have cut the handle and blade out well the blade should slip in. If you did not cut it out perfectly then you will have to sand away some off the foam (Like I Did). once the blade can fit in use the glue gun to attach the blade to the handle.

Step 4: Paper Mache (OPTIONAL)

(Optional). If there is any damage after sanding you can Paper Mache the sword. Mix some PVA Glue with some water and get some torn up pieces of newspaper. dip the paper into the mixed glue and wrap it around the sword. Leave it to dry and once it is dry it should hide some of the damage.

Step 5: Details

5. Now the main shape should be assembled you can add on the details. try to get an image up of the sword or use my image as a guide to where to place the details. the main details are the small circles that are placed on both sides. (The details are the blue parts seen in the picture)

Step 6: Painting

Now the details are on the sword you can paint it. I advise you to mask up the blade while you paint the handle and mask up the handle when painting the blade. I have used acrylic paints for this project. For the handle I made a dark grey and for the blade I have mixed a small amount of yellow with white to get the colour. Leave it to dry and you now have your own dragon bone sword. Enjoy.
