Introduction: The Not So Angry Cake Topper

About: I design, draw, sketch, blog, sew, stitch, make, photograph, tweet, bake, cook, and love all kinds of pretty things.

Angry Birds is not my favourite online game app but I think the characters are quite cute and have their own personalities, so one day I decided to make an Angry Bird inspired cake topper out of homemade fondant. This is how it turned out.

I made my fondants out of marshmallows. It is pretty simple to do. All you need to do is microwave the marshmallows in a bowl for 30 seconds with half a tablespoon of water until they are fully melted. Then you add powdered sugar in them and stir until the consistency is thick enough for moulding. There are a few recipes online that call for salt and other condiments. I like to stick with the basic so I followed this recipe. So far, it works just fine.

The red fondant is the toughest to do. For my angry bird, I actually had to paint it freehand with red food colouring and few drops of alcohol, so it is like water colour consistency. It took me a really long time in order to paint the intense red and without leaving any brush strokes mark (I am a perfectionist, can you tell?).

I have a new set of letter stamps that I have not used so I used them to make words impressions on the fondant before it dries up. Love is the word. Let's spread some and stop being angry!

Perhaps this topper is good for a not-so angry wedding?
