This looks amazing, the painting method really does give the 3D effect of leaded glass.

Yep, you can essentially leave it as long as you like. The copper will probbaly be in excess so after a while all the vinegar will have reacted, this is when I normally stop it, remove the copper and add it to more vinegar in a different container and let the verdigris solution (which will probably be so concentrated that verdigris crystals have already started to from) evaporate to yeild dry verdigris.

That looks great, so much faster than leaving it without hydrogen peroxide.

I'd be interested to find out how that goes, as the most I have tried is using lampback for ink. Do be careful as the amount needed for a paint is quite a bit, and even a small amount can get everywhere and make a bit of a mess.

Nice instructable, simple yet effective. Could I suggest using something like lampblack instead of charcoal (as it is far finer than can easily be made from charcoal) for the black? It is quite easy to make, though it does take a while, and just as natural.

A note to add to my previouscomments, the deep blue might be the result of two things.Firstly the reaction betweenthe hexaaquacopper(II) complex ions present (for the sake ofsimplicity I won't go into that more than to say it is formed asthere are Cu2+ ions present in verdigris, if you are interested havea read of thishttp://www.chemguide.co.uk/inorganic/complexmenu.html),which gives the general blue colour, and the added ammonia producestetraamminediaquacopper(II) complex ions which give the deep bluecolour to the solution.Secondly if there were anycopper(I) oxide present the ammonia will dissolve this to give Cu1+ions which form a colourless complex (diamminecopper(I) ions). Theseare then easily oxidised by the air to formtetraamminediaquacopper(II) ions. The slowness in crystal formati…

Looks great. Only slight point of improvement is you could add a dash of cinchona extract to it to more closely mimic the flavour or Kina Lillet.

- Edbed commented on Edbed's instructable How to make Organic orange dyeView Instructable »
Yes you can. First of all I would advise you try it with no other clothes as the dye may run, it is less likely to if you use a mordant, but still should be reasonably fast as it is. Also be aware that many of the chemicals used in washing are not pH neutral and so could affect the colour of the dye.

I have just had a thought. The rust colour in your instance is most probably due to iron contamination, but it might also be due to formation of copper (I) oxide which is a yellow to red colour. This can form from the water reacting with the copper, perhaps due to the large surface area of the scrubber more is produced than my method of using coins. The good news is that if that is the problem it can be solved by adding lots of water to the mixture as the copper oxide will not dissolve but the verdigris will and so can be separated by filtration or decanting. (I will add something to this extent to the instructable)

This is absolutely amazing. Just great detail set in stone, and your step by step description on how to do it is perfect.
- Edbed commented on Edbed's instructable How to make VerdigrisView Instructable »
The rust colour can be made from the smallest amount of iron and so if there is any iron in the vinegar, nicely coloured verdigris will not form. The dish scrubber is probably the source of this iron as copper is quite expensive so the scrubber is likely to be mainly iron just coloured copper.
