Cardboard through a table saw sounds scary to me. I'd be afraid of it catching. A sharp utility knife cuts really well. You could make a rectangular jig out of wood and use it as your straight edge. Please share your results. This was my first go. I’m sure there are improvements to be made but I am very happy with ones I made. I would love to hear about improvements. I’m also continuously amazed by the creativity and helpfulness of people here. It is a great place to lear and be inspired.
One barrel should be able to make one chair. It was about 25 staves per chair. There are enough in a barrel for one chair and some leftovers. I think you could get an end table out of the remnants but I haven’t done it yet.
