I think in these photos I was wearing tights under it, but I just usually choose to wear some seamless underwear, and it works fine. I didn't have to line it with anything. If you're using a super metallic material lines can be harder to hide though. Hope that helps!

EditDeleteDid you read through the section on Sewing Stretch on a Home Machine? I go into depth about which stitches I use there. The SS setting is the standard stitch length setting you use for most of the stretch stitches, but for zig-zag, you don't use SS, you set the width of the zig zag by setting the stitch length. As far as tension, you have to adjust that based on your fabric and machine so that your stitches are laying flat. My favorite stretch stitch for spandex/lycra is the overcast stitch which I describe in that section. For more detailed sewing instruction, you can also check out my Machine Sewing Class :)https://www.instructables.com/class/Machine-Sewing...
- MikaelaHolmes commented on MikaelaHolmes's instructable The Beginners Guide to Fiber OpticsView Instructable »
Hi! I'm sorry you're having this issue, but I think it's pretty much par for the course for side emitting fiber optics. Because more and more of the light escapes along the length of the fiber, the farther away from the source you get, the less pure the light is. I don't fully understand the physics here, but I'm assuming that, because white light includes all the other colors of light, and the wavelength of light gets longer as it moves from the blue to red spectrum, the light on the more blue end of the spectrum bounces more often off the walls of the fiber, thus escaping escape more quickly, and leaving the yellower light to continue farther down the strand. I am really surprised that it's happening so quickly with yours though, especially with a light on each end. There are definitely…

Wow! Thank you, that means so much to me! I really hope your project goes well, and please share photos!! And yes, the spiky rolly thingy (tracing wheel) is a wonderful tool :)
View Instructable »I bought it at a place called Fabric Outlet in San Francisco, but I don't have a link to it and I'm not sure if it is something that they usually carry, you could contact then to ask. I'm sorry! http://www.fabricoutletsf.com/

Hey Jessy!!! I just wanted you to know that your class really helped me in setting up the online shop I just published (www.floraandfaun.com) and thinking about all the various considerations of starting a handmade business. This is a great class and your own work is so inspiring and wonderful :) Thank you thank you!

This is a tricky thing to scan, lots of undercuts and small parts. Looks pretty good considering! How did your chamber work out?

Hmm, the link works for me. It doesn't have to be that particular rope, but something .5" in diameter with a solid braid so it is smooth on the outside is probably best. I also chose a polypropylene rope here because you can melt the end to keep it from fraying. Hope that helps!http://www.knotandrope.com/store/pc/1-2-quot-Solid...
- MikaelaHolmes commented on MikaelaHolmes's instructable Making Braided LeatherView Instructable »
The circumference of the rope needs to be the same size as the width of all 4 leather strips combined, in your case 1.5". Rope is usually measured in diameter, so if you use the Circumference = 2πr formula to solve for the diameter of a circle with a 1.5" circumference, you get a dimeter of .48". So a 1/2" diameter rope should work! Something like this would be great: http://www.knotandrope.com/store/pc/1-2-quot-Solid... Hope that helps :)

Wow! Thank you so much, that means a lot to me, and is so great to hear! I really appreciate the tips, especially the zipper sewing one! Pinning the zipper in with the suit on the person is brilliant, I will definitely have to try that, and include it in the Instructable. As far as the sewing with straight stitch thing, I have definitely seen people use that method, I guess I just personally found that it was harder to control the fabric when you had to pull during sewing, so I prefer the other stretch stitches. But the straight stitch+pulling method definitely works (and I actually do mention it as an option at the bottom of step 3 :)Thanks again for your very kind words! <3

One more question, how did you get the finish you got on the mask? Did you add layers of gesso? I also really like the cracked effect, and the fact that you made actual cracks, not just black lines. Very nice :)
Thank you! That's really beautiful :)
I'm so glad! I hope it goes went, I'd love to see photos!

- MikaelaHolmes commented on MikaelaHolmes's instructable DIY Owl Piñata
I hear you, I had a hard time breaking it open! But it is a piñata and making a piñata is part of the the technique I'm teaching so no, sorry, I'm not going to change the name. A lot of piñatas are animals and I certainly have never thought any of those were encouraging animal cruelty. I would hope no one would take something like this that seriously, it's just meant to be fun.

That looks pretty good for something that has a lot of thin details and is generally hard to capture! How does the model look in solid mode?

I think it's really just the photos that are making it look that way. The antique black is really more of a grey because it mostly stays in the cracks of the leather, when you wipe it off. And yes, there is also a glossy finish, but it's not metallic, just shiny :)
