How distorted is the forward vision? Would this item be a practical safety device for use while riding a bicycle?
Does this have enough torque to turn a small generator (like the kind you would find on a bicycle for headlights)?
Awesome project! Just be careful where you decide to build it. This is illegal in some states. Oregon for example.
Sure, if you don't mind early onset alzheimers ...
Very nice project. I'm going to build this but with a couple of minor differences. First, I'm going to use a plastic funnel from the dollar store for a more conical geometry, and second, I'm going to mitre the rear cover to give the cub a completely seamless appearance.Well done, my only complaint is that Blue Apron isn't available in my area :(
Maybe a thumbprint scanner on the backside? Like the one here at www.sparkfun.com/products/13007.
If you spray-paint the inside of the box with a matte black (IMPORTANT! DO NOT USE GLOSS BLACK) your projected image will be a lot cleaner and crisper. The black absorbs all of the ambient light put out by the cell phone so you don't end up with a washed out image from light reflected off of the walls of the box and thru the lens. I've made several of these using a portable television and an 8 x 10 Fresnel lens.
This is awesome! It reminds me of the layered cardboard computer case I made. I neglected to realize that my cats would not differentiate between my PC tower and their Kong layered cardboard cat scratcher. LOL.
I like Cliffystones approach. It is wayyy safer than the home user doing his (or her) own household electrical work. Using the two unused conductors to transmit voltage (typically 5 to 12 VDC) is a great idea. I would also like to point out that this is not technically an unintended purpose. The two unused conductors used to carry up to 60 VAC back when the telephones in the house were analog rotary type phones that used electrical pulses to determine the dialed numbers. With todays digital services and DTMF tones for dialing those two conductors go mostly unused. Most residences don't even have those conductors connected at the box.
