This is just an idea, yes it proably more effective to do it the easier way, I would probably just make a fire and cook it over a fire. I was going to show another mod for this that you could use to boil water with, but i promised my viewers I would upload an instructable since i haven't in a while. I might update this one to show the mod, which is more effective then this makeshift DIY bbq.

I some what agree with you, yes there is a little bit of a safety issue, but for starters who leaves their small little dog outside unsupervised to freeze to death. For larger dogs thats a different story. I know you say that it would be melting, but it would still be cold outside still and it proably would have already collaped from melting. Same goes for small childern, why would you leave them unsupervised. Honestly your concern is a risk, I understand that, but only someone whos irresponsible and doesnt know whats a hazard and whats not.

I would recommend using a charge controller, I know I didn't in mine, but either that or a voltage regulator. Basically what you would need to do is replace the solar cells with your one turbine. I would also recommend building some type of housing to store the batteries and a mount for turbine to put on something like a shed. Also I would probably take this project a step further and get some better more high capacity batteries. If you have anymore questions let me know.
