I chose a butt hinge to avoid the chance of the screws being pulled out under any clamping pressure as would be the case with strap hinges screwed to the face, the clamping force would be directly on the screws with that type of hinge creating a high probability of this problem.

The fence of the guide being out of true vertical alignment will not effect anything, the fence just rides along the edge of the material you are using the guide on.

A circle cutting jig is basically built the same as this jig. Here is how you want to do this, build the base of the jig as I did but do not create the slots or build the fence. Instead you would draw one pencil line center of the base that goes from the opening for the router bit to the opposite end of the jig. Then drill a hole about every 1/4 of an inch over the length of this pencil line, this hole should be just large enough to except a small screw. The way this works is locate the center of the circle you wish to create and mark it with a pencil. Then place the jig with the router attached on top of the material you marked for the circle cut. The size of the circle is determined by the distance between the router bit and the corresponding hole with in the series of holes you drilled…

To be honest the first time I saw this jig was 40 years ago in my Grandfathers shop. As far as woodsmith having a version of it, maybe they do I don't know it is a great jig and it is a style that has been around for many years, but I have no association with them so I really don't know about what they are doing. But I do know there is no reason to be negative towards anybody, this should be a happy place to share ideas and inspire each other to create great things.
Very good advise, thank you.
Lee Valley does have some great patterns, I did not even think of that. Thank you for sharing the link, that is a great idea.

thank you and I'm sorry for not having something like this, all I have is a template that I made from some 1/4 inch plywood many years ago and it has just become what I use anytime I need to make a handle.
Glad you enjoyed, hope you have a great day :-)
thank you very much
