The Ipe is not pressure treated, but is extremely expensive. Western Red Cedar is also super pricey in my area, the wood for the pergola was $450.

I'm not sure that would have saved any weight and would have been a heck of a lot more work. This is light enough as is and was simple to build.

Awesome work man! Looks great. I'm sure it'll last you for years to come (I still use mine every day). One tip: after washing it, dry it off with a towel and then let it finish drying on its side. Helps to keep it from warping.

I like it a lot so far. The Easel software makes it pretty much dummyproof, since it walks you through each step of getting the machine set up before each carving session. No metal so far, although I think it would cut softer metals fine.

Definitely a good idea, but I'm not sure how precise the glass company was when cutting the glass. If they're precise enough, that's definitely a safer alternative.

As I said multiple times in the Instructable and video, this project could be done with MUCH cheaper and fewer tools. I produce weekly how-to projects and need as much efficiency as possible in my shop, hence the nicer tools. A cheap planer, router and table saw could build this project effectively.

Wood glue wouldn't be strong enough on the joints on the base, as glue on end grain just absorbs into the wood rather than creating a lot of strength. The reason your countertop worked was the overlapping long grain contact, that's providing all of the strength in your piece.
