There should be enough material in the sheet to get 6 "front" rails out of it to the left of the rails on top or the bottom left corner of the sheet. The drawing is to scale.

Thanks! I agree, using solid steel blades is probably the best bet. These blades are worn out cold-cutting blades. I made some other carving knives before this one and seem to hold an edge pretty well but I don't have a whole lot of other carving tools to compare it to.

Thanks Capn'. The construction process I used worked well for me, and I think I'll make some more. My next one will be closer to a question mark shape. Have any other ideas on a shape that would be good to have?

Thanks Jake. It is a pretty easy project, anyone can make one. If you don't have any saw blade material I bet you could use an old kitchen knife or similar.

Yes, you can dig a trench and fill it with charcoal. You would need a blower to get the fire up to forging temperature. A hair dryer would work for that purpose. For this size of a project, the easiest way is to just use a map gas torch. They run about $40. You probably don't need to pile up bricks like I did, but it will help conserve gas.

That thing looks sweet. I've built a couple of "Boom boxes" and used a Lepai 2020+ as the amplifier. I wonder if Modustrial Maker (or anyone else) could comment on how it sounds compared to the Lepai.

Beginner smith checking in. That looks like a pretty serviceable anvil. Rounding out the horn area a bit would make it useful for adding curvature or drawing out pieces, and adding a hardy hole and pritchel hole would allow some tooling to be attached. Here's my anvil. 78 pounds of mild steel. I put a radius on the one side for doing small bends. I plan on welding a 1" plate on one of the ends with hardy/pritchel holes so I can use cutting tooling and hold fasts.

No plans to making a fortune here. Just hoping to eventually get a bit of honey for eating and brewing mead.

This is my reason. I've been wanting to get into be keeping, but we've had some pretty brutal winters around here recently. I'd hate to spend a few hundred bucks getting a hive going only to have the colony die off after the first year.
