I tried guar gum with no luck. But I didn't really experiment with different concentrations. I'm sure theres a good binder for this, I just haven't looked too hard.

Good luck. Mine bolted, but I wanted to show students the process so I'm ok with it. Some lettuces can grow in early summer, but yeah, they are happier in the cold. I have some in the shady parts of the garden and so far they are tasty but we are gowing them for baby greens

Good luck and happy growing.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. They did grow that fast and I have only had one little green onion that did not grow that fast. I am always surprised by the carrots. I can always spot growth the next morning.Perhaps it's your growing conditions vs mine.

My results with a full spectrum camera were not great. The sensor picked up too much IR. If you block IR with a filter on the camera, you also block out visible light. So I use a non-modified camera for UVIVF with the above set up.But if you have a full spectrum mod'd camera, try it, you might like the results. I just did not.

Good idea and it reduces waste products. Love it
Thank you for your comment and for growing food for people
Thanks. I have not tried it in water. I'll give it a shot.

Thanks. Have fun and pleases post images. I would love to see what you do.
Yup. Potatoes are easy to grow. Maybe I should do and Instructable just on potatoes. I didn't include them here for two reasons: Potatoes never get old around here so I didnt have one ready for this Instructable and they are boring for little kids. Sad, but true. To keep a prescholler's attention, they need to see daily progress. A bucket of dirt wont do it :) Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thanks for the reminder. I forgot to include the note on hybrids for the tomatoes and cucumbers since I know that they are heirlooms. I will add a note in the intro when I post an update tonight. We have clay here too :(, but you can grow potatoes in a bucket or grow bag. I have done it in Ikea bags. Thanks to all the notes on potatoes, I may have to write an Instructable in growing them.
View Instructable »Thanks for taking the time to comment. This is for kids. And gardening doesnt alway mean eating the resulting plant.Getting fruit depends on your starting seed. I have been growing avocados from seeds since preschool. All but one produced fruit in two years. The first year they produce is always just for fun as they are tiny. It depends on many factors like soil, sun, feeding, pruning, proving shade in the hot day and and protection from the cold on frosty nights, having a second tree, and most importantly the seed. As I pointed out, it takes a long time to produce and commercially available trees are grafted. I am speaking from experience and not something I read.

Hi again, I wasn't happy with the pattern I made in the cutters software, so I made a new one and just added it. I will ad an SVG & PDF in the morning.

Agreed, but since this is for kids, its easier to have something I can toss in a cart or box, rather than take the kids out to the garden.
