Lots of comments about the quality of the motor and this and that. Congratulations however on this timely DIY post at a time when the world needs it the most.

Hi Utkarsh, Although I have my mini off grid solar system, I enjoyed reading your post and congratulations on a very elaborate explanation of both systems. Keep up the good work.I am currently working on a trial to see if I can use the sukam charge controller shown in your post and modify it in some way to directly give me a regulated 12 volt output when connected to a solar panel (without any batteries).

Hi great project. However when I tried to replicate it i ran into some issues and I hope you can help especially because I am new to Github, Heroku and IOT. (A) Ok the .ino file compiles beautifully on the arduino. (B) Heroku also set up and deployed ...seems to be no problem there except when I click the open app button on the top right hand corner I get the following error. Application errorAn error occurred in the application and your page could not be served. If you are the application owner, check your logs for details. You can do this from the Heroku CLI with the commandheroku logs --tail(C) On github, I forked your repository and so I do not suspect any problems there. However when I try to bring it all together with only the NodeMCU connected without any sensors , I get the fol…

My work area is not in my garage. it's a small room on the first floor about 12 feet by 6 feet.

A very detailed instructable indeed. I admire your patience and your sheer commitment to pull something as complicated as this project to the very end. I chanced upon your instructable when I was looking for a design for an ESC (70 - 80 Amps rating) for my car alternator converted into a BLDC motor. Great instructable once again and keep them coming. Cheers !

It will work for as long as the sun is available to power the utilities and also charge the inverter battery. During the sunlit hours from 9 AM - 5 PM it is my inverter that is powering the lights and fans. The solar panel should ideally charge the battery parallely as it discharges through the inverter. Optimally with the charge controller I have, I should have fitted three 100W panels. Until today I had only 200W panel. Today I have connected the third 100W panel and I hope this will make the savings more apparent.

Having finished this set up, I realised the limitation with this is that I am having to depend on the grid supply to power the lights after sun down. Therefore leaving the two phases that power the heavier loads, I am currently toying with an idea to see if I can work out a way totally reduce the dependance on the grid supply on this phase -powered during the day by solar. It might involve buying an extra panel and a seperate battery and designing some additional circuits to turn on and off. However, I think it should be possible.

Interesting instructable. I recently set up an off grid solar system at home as well. If you have the inclination please visit https://www.instructables.com/A-Cost-Effective-... Basically of the three phase supply at home the 800 VA sine inverter was connected to the phase with the lighter loads viz. fans and lights while the heavier loads (AC, refrigerators etc) are on the other two phases. The phase powering the lighter loads is now run entirely on Solar during the day.

Hi great instructable. I am currently working on exactly the same thing and that's when I came across your page.in my case it is an 80 year old house with much woodwork etc. So for starters I am going to attempt converting to 12v supply while I maintain the other floor at 230v supply.primary reason is to give me time to get my feet wet without spending excessively. I can always scale up later. I am mindful about making it aesthetic to go with the house.one question I have for you is having implemented this system do you find the voltage to drop considerably over long cables thus making lights at a fair distance from the battery seem dimmer than those closer? if yes how have you compensated for that? once again glad to have come across this I'ble.

Let me start by saying this is a great write up. I have just invested in my first 100w 12v panel two days ago after having decided to try my hand at converting some of the lighting at my house to LED solar based. That is when I came across this article. My constraints (though I am an electrical engineer) include solar powered projects being an uncharted territory, lack of much open space in my 80 year old house and excessive tree cover where I have some space for experimenting.Notwithstanding I am so encouraged to go ahead and thank you for that. I will start small and scale things up.

Interesting indeed. I used the voice app to control the lights and fans in the living room and dining room of my house. I am not sure if you encountred this problem as well in that some words are not picked up correctly and therefore your commands have to be those which are easily understood by the app to avoid errors and ambiguity. Good luck anyways with future projects.

Well baically the pin connection is as follows:-Tx and Rx pins of HC -05 on pins 0 and 1Relay_1 - Pin 2PIN 3 and Gnd on the digital side reserved for IR LED // Pin 3 +veRelay_2 - Pin 4Relay_3 - Pin 5Relay_4 - Pin 6// Pins 7-9 reserved for LCD display use in futureRelay_5 - Pin 10Relay_6 - Pin 12Relay_7 - Pin13There is nothing hard and fast. Configure it any which way you like. Hope this helps.

Just an update after having posted the instructable. Although I mentioned TATA Sky codes in my sketch, I am afraid that part of the code to control the dish TV setup box didn't quite work out.May be I will get to it at a later date. Sorry about not updating the remarks section.

Ooops ! I came across your comment only today after I posted my third POST (won't call it an instructable after you pointed out something valid) :)Yeah I guess from a beginners perspective, I agree it would help one loads if I threw in a wiring schedule as well. Point noted and will make that a part of my future instructables.

That does make sense. Should try that. Thank you
Can you please confirm that for the 3 pin and the 4 pin configurations LCD pin 15 i.e PSB is not connected (NC). This video This video specifically states that pin 15 should be connected to GND. Either way my display is coming up blank. It has been 4 days and I am at my wits end :)
