Introduction: Quick Cheap Dustpan

About: hgv driver but only because it pays more than I can make otherwise
from a used bulk liquid container to a dustpan in a couple of minutes

Step 1: The Raw Material

a used high density polyethylene bulk liquid container they get used for every thing from screen wash and engine oil to vinegar and Cola syrup concentrate. One that held something water soluble is probably better as it's easier to clean out. This one is a 2.5lt screen wash bottle the 5lt version is probably as big as you'd want to go. The idea is not new my dad used to use them around his workshop over 20 years ago. before that he made them out of metal oil cans.

Step 2: Wide or Narrow

decided if you want a wide or narrow dustpan and mark your cut lines leave a small lip bellow the top of the container as it adds to the rigidity of the finished product.

Step 3: Roughly Shape

hack the bulk of the waste away with your cutting tool of choice

Step 4: Clean It Up

trim the lip flat and straight for normal use. my dad had one with a semi circle cut out that fitted around the colum of his pillar drill. that's as far as you really need to go its ready to use, but it's nice to clean it up and make it look neat.

Step 5: Test

the other half wasn't home so I thought a quick demonstration with some flour on the kitchen floor would be ok. h&s don't let the other half catch you chucking flour on the floor just to do a demonstration.
