Introduction: Blinged-Up Button Rings

About: I am a conceptual artist, and my DIY projects are mostly inspired by pop culture (movies, music, sports, TV). I mostly specialize in painting, graphic design, drawing, digital photography, performance art, and…

This fun, colorful idea for blinged-up button rings crosses two projects found on the Joann's website: Covered Button Rings and Buttons & Bling Necklace.

Step 1: Materials

Here's what you'll need to makes these cute patterned rings...

  • craft cover buttons
  • ring bases
  • fabric [scraps]
  • scissors
  • pencil or marker
  • plastic circle template
  • small rhinestones
  • E6000 glue and / or hot glue gun

Step 2: Make Circle

To start, make a circle out of fabric by tracing the plastic circle template on the back with a pencil or pen. Then, cut out the circle.

Step 3: Make Button

From there, place the fabric circle wrong side up inside the mold, including with the kit, and place a button shell on top. Tuck in the fabric, and place the bottom without the shank on top, pressing it down with the included pusher to snap into place.

Step 4: Add Rhinestones

Now, to add some bling to these rings, just add a few dots of hot glue to the top of the button in a desired pattern and apply a few rhinestones. Let dry completely.

Step 5: Add a Ring Blank

Finally, just glue the button to the ring base and let dry. The best way to do this is to tape the rings to a paper plate so that they stand upright during drying time.

Step 6: Put a Ring on It!

Then, once they're dry, it's ready to wear on your finger! Make more for your friends to add to their colorful jewelry line-up. Great to make and sell, these easy fashion staples go way beyond the vintage styled rings!
