Chevron Friendship Bracelet Tutorial

Here's a tutorial on how to make an easy chevron friendship bracelet that you can make for yourself or for a friend. This bracelet is super simple and soon you'll be making these like a pro. 

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Here's what you'll need for this Instructable:

-4 different colors of embroidery floss
-scissors
-tape
-something smooth to work on

Step 2: Cut and Measure Your String

For your bracelet, you're going to need 8 strings, 2 of each color. I made each of my strings 28 inches long, but my wrist is pretty small. Here's a guide to help you with your measurements:

-small wrist: 25 to 30 inches
-medium wrist: 30-35 inches
-large wrist: 35-40 inches

These might not be entirely accurate, so just remember that it's better to have too much string than too little. 

Step 3: Starting It Off

Once you have all of your string cut, tie a knot at the very top of the strings. Then, divide the string into 3 groups (they won't be even groups, but it doesn't matter), and braid them together. When your braid is about 1.5-2 inches long, tie a knot at the bottom. Having the ends of your bracelet braided will make tying it on much easier. 

Step 4: Spread the Strings Out

This is an easy step. Spread out your string in this pattern: 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Step 5: The Knot

Here's where things get a little tricky, but I'll try my best to explain, and maybe the video will help. 

Take String 1 (remember 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1) on the left in your left hand, and String 2 in your right. Take String 1 and lay it across String 2, so it makes a right triangle pointing towards the left. Then, still holding String 2 in your right hand, take your left hand through the middle of the triangle and grab on to the end of String 1. Pull String 1 under String 2 and through the triangle, and then pull it tightly until your knot slides to the top of the bracelet. Do this twice with String 1 and 2. 

Step 6: Keep Going

Now that you know the basic knot, keep going. For the chevron pattern, this is what you'll need to do:

Knot String 1 (two times each) onto Strings 2,3, and 4 on the left. 

Do the same on the right side, knotting the right String 1 onto the right 2, 3, and 4.

Now you should have both String 1's in the middle. Take the left String 1 and do ONE knot onto String 2. Then, take String 2 and do ONE knot onto String 1. The strings should switch positions. 

Repeat this, now starting with left String 2 onto left Strings 3, 4, and 1.

Keep going until your bracelet is the desired length. 

Step 7: Tying It Off

When your bracelet is the length you want, tie a normal knot below the last row, just like you did in the beginning. Then, separate the  strings into 3 groups and braid them together. When your braid is 1.5-2 inches long, tie another knot. Cut off the excess string just below the knot. 

Step 8: Finished!

Your bracelet is now done and ready to wear! Simply put it on you or your friend's wrist, and tie the 2 braided ends together in a double knot. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
