Introduction: Christmas Hair Ornaments

About: I like to sew and make things. Hopefully what I share can be helpful to others.

This tutorial will show you how I made plastic Christmas tree ornaments into hair ornaments.

Supplies

  • plastic Christmas tree ornaments (the ones I bought were approx 2" in diameter)
  • 1 bobby pin for each ornament
  • hot glue gun
  • hot glue sticks

Step 1: Gather Supplies

Remember to plug in your hot glue gun!

Step 2: Remove Wire and Cap

Do this carefully, because the wire might go flying out of your hands.

Step 3: Replace Wire With Bobby Pin

Point the prong ends of the bobby pin away from the ornament, and wiggle the bent end into the ornament cap.

Step 4: Put Hotglue in Ornament Neck

Dab hotglue into the opening of the ornament, making sure to also dab some on the lip of the ornament neck.

Step 5: Put Cap Back on Ornament

Replace the cap back onto the ornament while the glue is still melted.

Push the bobby pin 1/4 to 1/2 inch into the ornament.

Hold the bobby pin upright until the glue is cooled.

Step 6: Hotglue Top of Cap

Adding hotglue to the top of the cap will help stabilize the bobby pin.
It's important to do this AFTER the hotglue inside the ornament cap has completely cooled.
Otherwise, the cap won't be adhered to the ornament and will be harder to stabilize the bobby pin.

Step 7: Pin Hair Ornaments Into Hair

I like being extra tacky.
I also bobby pinned a gift wrap bow into my hair to add even more gaudiness to my hair style.

Happy holidays!
