Introduction: Cube Cat House

About: Hello, my name is Auroris. Every day we have the opportunity to learn new things, to rethink tired processes, and to improve the way we work.

You can do by yourself cool Cat House for a modern pet.

A better alternative for a cardboard box ;)

Follow below for the step-by-step instructions to create a cozy home for your furry little friend!

Supplies

  • Cube shelf unit - I use 36x33x36 cm
  • Legs 4pcs
  • Door Mat small - It will be a claw sharpener for your cat
  • Blanket - Super soft is required
  • Rubber Glue
  • Nails & Screws
  • Scissors
  • Drill
  • Hammer
  • Paint & Brush (optional)

Step 1: Furniture Legs

Unscrew the bolt from the leg, if it's mounted, if not - better for you. In my case, that bolt is too big, and I will use another one.

Step 2: Line Up the Legs

I use a hack to line up all the legs - double sided tape.

Attach the legs to the base, and make sure that they fit it. Turn the base and drill 2 holes in each leg.

Step 3: Assembling Cube Shelf

Follow instructions to assemble the cube shelf unit. This type of shelf is very popular, you can find it in a home Decor/Furniture store, Home Improvement store, IKEA (models like Kallax or Eket).

Step 4: Screw the Legs

Step 5: Cut the Rug to the Size of the Side - We Need 2 Pcs

Step 6: Optional

It is not necessary to paint this Cat House. I wanted to protect the raw wood because it will stay outside, on our balcony. I chose water-based paint because it dries quickly and leaves no odor.

Step 7: Backside and Front Border

If you cut out a square of fabric from the corner of the blanket, you will need to finish just 2 raw edges. Finished backside - 35x35cm. Front border - 35x15cm

Step 8:

I had cute black nails for wood, with a wide head, so I decided to attach the textile sides by driving nails all around. Two things at once: Functional & Decor. Softwoods are more suitable for our purposes, rather than hardwoods. Use the smallest diameter nail and point at the center of the edge to prevent the wood from splitting.

Step 9: Rubber Glue Is the Best Way to Stick Rubber Mat to Wood

Step 10: Easy Peasy Pillow

Just fold the blanket to make it fit the cat's cave. A few hidden stitches and the pillow is ready!

Step 11: Tada! Cat House Is Ready!

Bonus: It can be a Side table or Foot-rest. Think about it ;)
