Introduction: Cycle Tyre Belt

About: I Love Making Stuff !!

This is a great way to recycle your old tyre into something useful. This is a very easy project and very quick to do. This belt only took me 20 minutes to make.

You will need:

  1. A good sharp pair of scissors.
  2. A drill.
  3. A hack saw.
  4. A nut or bolt or large rivet.
  5. A belt buckle.

Step 1: Grab Your Hacksaw!

Start off by cutting the tyre in half with your hacksaw.

Step 2: Cutting of the Metal Bead

Now measure the width you want your belt to be. There are usually lines which run around the entire tyre which you can follow as a guide. Once the steel bead has been cut off you should find the tyre is a bit more flexible and is able to be flattened out.

Step 3: Mounting the Buckle

Now fold the tyre over around 40mm from the end and cut two slits in the folded end.

Now join the two slits together this should make a small rectangle hole ready to place your buckle into.

Step 4: Securing the Buckle in Place

Rap the buckle inside the tyre and now drill one or two holes and fasten together with a small bolt or a rivet. I used two bolts but one would be enough.

Step 5: Measure & Cut to Fit

Now simply wrap it around you and cut to the desired length and place a few more holes using a drill at the end for the buckle to go through.

Step 6: Final Clean

Give the belt a nice wash and hey presto one tyre belt!

Enjoy!
