Step 1: Materials

You will need:

  • a pretty necklace/chain to hang your pendants on
  • gold or silver polymer clay
    • or any color you’d like
  • Swarovski gemstones
  • a pin or toothpick to make a hole with
  • jump rings
  • paintbrushes
  • black paint
    • and gold paint if using gold clay
  • Mod Podge or any gloss sealer.

Step 2: Knead and Knead and Knead and Knead.....

Break off a tiny piece of clay and knead the clay until it’s soft and warm. The longer you knead it the better as warm clay will imprint better than cold clay.

(The clay was so hard at first! Haha.)

Step 3: The Printing Part of Finger Print...

Roll it into a tiny egg shaped ball. It should be about the size of a peanut for a young child. A little bit bigger for an adult. Press your thumb/finger into the dough and press down. Avoid moving your finger back and forth and pull it straight up and out so you don’t smudge the print. Make sure you don’t press too far down as it would make it too fragile as well.

Step 4: Poke, Push, and Bake!

Step 3:Make a hole on the top of the print. Widen it a bit to make sure your jump rings will fit after they bake. Grab a your birthstone and press it into the bottom right corner of the print. Make sure you press it in well so that it will stay. Bake your prints according to the directions on your clay. I baked mines for about 30 minutes at 270 degrees

Step 5: Paint On, Wipe Off, and Make It Shiny!

After it’s baked and cooled. Paint some black paint over your fingerprint. Avoid the gemstone. Wait about a minute and wipe it off. This helps the print show up better. If you’re using the gold clay, paint the print with gold paint after the black paint is dry. I found this makes the print show up even better and it also makes it more shiny and golden! Let the paint dry and cover the front and back with Mod Podge to make it shiny and keep it protected. I did not put Mod Podge over the gemstone.

Step 6: Put It All Together!

Once the Mod Podge is fully dry, attach your jump rings and hang it onto your necklace!

That's it!

Isn’t it so pretty and sparkly! I think it would make one of the greatest presents ever!
