Step 1: Gather Materials

Step 2: Measure & Mark

First, mark points on each pant leg that are 1-2 inches below the crotch, depending on how high you want your leg slits to start (I chose about 2 inches below the crotch). Then from those points, mark the center points of the pant legs.

After that, move to the bottom of each pant leg and mark the center point, a point that is 2 inches to the left of the center, and a point that is 2 inches to the right of the center. You will have 4 marks total per pant leg; one at the top center and three at the bottom.

Step 3: Cut Leg Slits

Now it's time to cut! Start from the bottom right point that you marked and cut a diagonal line up to that point at the top center of the pant leg. Then cut another line from the bottom left point up to that top center point, creating a triangular opening in the top layer of material. Repeat this on the other pant leg and you now have your leg slits!

Step 4: Fold & Iron Edges

Next, flip the pants inside out and move to an ironing board. Then cut small horizontal slits on each side of the top point of each leg opening so the edges are able to fold over smoothly.

Now, place a strip of stitch witchery along an edge and fold the material over so that the stitch witchery is sandwiched between both sides of the material. Run your iron over that edge, melting the stitch witchery and creating a nice, crisp fold that will stay in place.

Repeat this on the rest of the cut edges and your leg slits will be nice and smooth!

Step 5: Create Pleats

Now that your leg slits are done, flip the pants back to the correct side. Slightly pinch the material from the top of the leg slit to right underneath the waistband and fold it outward. Place a strip of stitch witchery beneath that fold and iron over it.

Repeat this on the other side and you now have pleats that connect to your leg slits for a more stylish look!

Step 6: All Done!

Once the ironing is done, it's time to try on your new sleek split-leg pants! I styled mine with a tank top and heels. Thanks so much for checking out this DIY tutorial and I hope you decide to give it a try! Please comment below and let me know if you do. :)
