Introduction: Felt Pencil Case

About: Hello, my name is Auroris. Every day we have the opportunity to learn new things, to rethink tired processes, and to improve the way we work.

Hi friends!

I want to share with you a felt craft project - Felt Pencil Case. Don't limit yourself, this project is also good to make cases for your glasses, makeup brush/paintbrush, notebooks, cell phones or even travel documents. This will help you to keep all together in a cute handmade case.

As a fan of coloring books, I collected a lot of marker pens and now it's time to organize them.

Let's get started!

Step 1: What You’ll Need:

  • Felt
  • Embroidery thread and a needle
  • Velcro Tape 1cm
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors
  • optionally: an assistant)))

Step 2: Cut the Base

To make a pencil case, cut 2 rectangles of felt: 10cmX20cm (4x8 inch) and 10cmX30cm (4x12inch)

Step 3: Sew It

To sew, use embroidery thread and a needle with a large eye. Stitch up the bottom and sides with a Blanket Stitch. It is a decorative stitch and looks nice on both sides. Work neatly and symmetrical, take care around corners. Don't forget to stitch only one layer on top (short one).

You can look up the HAND SEWING CLASS, and find "Sewing the Blanket Stitch" lesson

Step 4: Cut Out Decorative Elements

Cut out simple shapes of felt: a few leaves, one flower and some buds. Imagination is the limit, feel free to improvise!
Place all details on white felt for contrast, it is better to have a clear idea of how it will look at the end before get all together.

Step 5: Embroidery

In embroidery, my skills are basic. It's easy to do three-four stitches on leaves, and a few french knots in middle of flower. Here, minimalism is the secret)

Step 6: Glue It in Place

Glue all details on white felt using hot glue gun.

Cut out the shape leaving a small border 2-3 mm. Cut very carefully to avoid accidentally cutting off decorative elements.

Fold the top flap and glue your applique.

Step 7: Cut the Bottom Edge of the Flap Following the Shape

Step 8: Glue the Velcro and Done!
