This is from US Patent no. 8,474,667.

When you cut nylon webbing, it will fray, so you usually start the edge on fire and blow it out. The heat will melt it and the ends will fuse. You can use this technique to fuse webbing together. Immediately after you blow out the fire, you press the melted end onto another piece of webbing between two pieces of smooth wood and hold it for a few seconds. You'll find that if the melted section is too small, or you wait too long before pressing the pieces together, it won't fuse properly. If you have too much melt, it may make the fused joint rigid. Please try it out. If you start an industry using this technology, please see me about licensing the technology.
