We all know Carbon Fiber is friggin' AWESOME! So, why don't we make some of our things have or look like they have Carbon Fiber on it! My dad recently bought some Carbon Fiber vinyl and I thought up this amazingness. I've Carbon Fibered my phone backplate and I'll be demonstrating on how to Carbon Fiber something on a little LED keychain light. The Carbon Fiber Vinyl is very realistic (if you buy the right kind) and is very cheap compared to (let's say) a phone case/cover made from real Carbon Fiber. Read on to discover how to do this and some more mad pictures.

Step 1: Materials

O.K. so this is whatcha' need:

-Object to be Carbon Fibered

-Carbon Fiber vinyl

-Paper towels

-Cleaning solution

-X-Acto Knife

*IF APPLICABLE TO YOUR PROJECT*

-Hair Dryer

-Dismantling tools

Step 2: Disassemble Your Item

If you have an item that can be disassembled to make the Carbon Fibering easier, do it. Take pictures of the way it is put together for reference when you later reassemble it.

Step 3: Applying & Cut Fitting the Carbon Fiber (Plus More Methods)

Since my object is flat, it is very easy to apply the Carbon Fiber vinyl. Place it on the Carbon Fiber and cut around your item, being sure to leave a little bit of vinyl on the edges so it can be trimmed exactly. After cutting the shape, clean your object and apply the vinyl to it.Then, cut off excess vinyl using your object as a template. If you are doing something that has round parts like a car hood, or phone case, use a hairdryer to make the vinyl more flexible so that it conforms to the rounded edges. If you are wrapping something else that you don't want to take apart you can make a template of it using paper and further trim it until it is exact and then apply it. If you have holes that need to cut out of the vinyl (ex. the button hole in my project) use the edge of the hole to cut out the covering piece.

Step 4: Touch-Ups

Use a permanent marker to touch-up any colors that are showing from your original object. Edges are usually and usually need to be touched-up. Look at the pictures for help.

Step 5: Reassembly

Reassemble your object by reversing the steps you took to disassemble it.

Step 6: Results

My results turned out very nice. If you want to even think about attempting this, remember this: DO NOT RUSH!!! The time required for this project varies because of the different shapes, objects, and items that can be wrapped/Carbon Fibered.
