Shampoo can be damaging to your hair and scalp. They can be full of chemicals and detergents! Don't worry though, there are ways to clean your hair without actually using shampoo. Here I share how to wash your hair using only your conditioner.

Step 1:

Before getting in the shower, make sure to detangle your hair.

Step 2:

While in the shower, skip the shampoo. If you don't want to throw away your money by throwing away your shampoo, use the left overs as body wash, makeup brush cleaner, or to clean the house (using it in place of soap products).

Step 3:

In place of shampoo, use only conditioner. Take a large amount of conditioner into your hands and starting from your roots, massage into your scalp and through the rest of your hair. Conditioner will clean your hair gently through these massaging motions. This will loosen any dirt or products from your hair and scalp.

Step 4:

Now you have two options. Either wash out all of this conditioner (and the dirt that has loosened) and then apply conditioner as you normally would (to then do the actual conditioning) or just leave this conditioner in your hair for the duration of your shower. I just stick with what's easy and leave the conditioner in my hair instead of washing it off and then adding more.

Step 5:

At the end of your shower, massage your scalp again to take out all of the conditioner. Don't ask me why (because I have no clue) but cold water helps take off the conditioner faster than hot water. Cold water also helps seal in the cuticle of your hair, leading to more shine.

Step 6:

Note: Switching to a conditioner-only method will bring your hair into a transition period. For a few weeks your hair could become greasier but after your hair adjusts it will be prettier than ever. To learn more about the transition period, watch the attached video. I made the video I explain how I haven't used shampoos in my hair since 2011.

Step 7:

Extra tip: Make sure to also phase out products from your routine that contain silicone. Silicone products will build up in your hair and make it greasier since you won't have shampoo to help stop this build up.

Good luck!
