How to Attach Snaps

Introduction: How to Attach Snaps

About: Vegan, baker, cosplayer, party planner, traveler, self-proclaimed food monster...

Almost every time I need to attach snaps I have to look up a tutorial because I've forgotten. But I want something simple that uses images not video so I decided to make my own!

For the purpose of this tutorial I'm going to identify the snap parts as A front & back, B front & back, and C front & back. They have technical names, but if you're searching for a tutorial on how to attach snaps then you probably don't care.

A and B are what snap into each other. C is what will attach A and B to the fabric. Your snap kit might have a version of C that is decorative.

Supplies

  • Snap kit

Step 1: Attach One Side of Your Snaps

Reference photos 1- 3 for the following information.

Place the front side of part A (pointed) facing inward on the side of your tool with the large hole. This part should snap into place so that it will not fall out.

On the other side of your tool, which should be the small hole, place part C with the front (teeth) facing outward. This piece will not snap into place so you want to keep it facing up. This is the part of your snap that will show so keep that in mind before attaching.

Place your fabric in between the pieces and squeeze. You probably won't feel any indication that it's attached so do a few tests until you get the hang of how much pressure you need to use.

Step 2: Attach the Other Snap

Reference photos 1- 3 for the following information.

Place the front side of part B (smaller hole) facing inward on the side of your tool with the large hole. This part should snap into place so that it will not fall out.

Again, on the other side of your tool, which should be the small hole, place part C with the front (teeth) facing outward. This piece will not snap into place so you want to keep it facing up.

Place your fabric in between the pieces and squeeze.

Step 3: You Did It!

It seems really complicated but once you do a few it's easy peasy!
