Unless you have been living under a rock for all your life you should know what a spider is, and here, we are going to teach you how to make one out of K'NEX! This Instructable will teach you how to make a VERY quick and easy K'NEX spider with its own web to accompany it. The spider is only 50 pieces, so it is a good project to do with some younger audiences.
~12 white snowflakes ~2 black plates
~17 white connectors ~1 long white rod
~8 yellow connectors ~1 grey end cap
~8 green elbows ~1 black end cap
Step 2: Step 1: Making the Web
Start with 12 snowflakes and 17 small white connectors. Take one snowflake and attach two small white connectors at 3 and 6 o'clock. Next, put a snowflake on the free end of each of the two connectors. Now a small white connector to form right angles at the two new snowflakes. finish by adding a fourth snowflake to make a square. Repeat these steps and add 8 more snowflakes to create a 3 by 4 arrangement.
Step 3: Step 2: Spider Legs
To make 8 spider legs, take 8 green elbows and 8 medium yellow connectors. Simply attach a single yellow connector to the end of a green elbow. Repeat this 7 more times to make a total of 8 legs.
Step 4: Step 3: Making a Spider
Start by attaching a spider leg made in the previous step onto one connector on the black plate. Make the attachment by placing the black rod, which comes off of the black plate, into the unoccupied space in the green connector furthest to the edge. Repeat this step four times, so that the plate has four spider legs. Then, take the last four remaining spider legs and repeat this process on the other black plate.
Step 5: Step 4: Making the Spider Body
Take the two black plate "spiders" and thread a white rod through the center circle of both black plate. Thread it so that the eight legs are equidistant. Next, at end of the white rod, attach the black end cap. Make sure that the black end cap is under the spider body. Above the completed spider, thread the spider web onto the rod. Thread the rod through the circle in the center of the snowflake, using the snowflake in the middle row, first column. Lastly, place the grey end cap on the other end of the white rod. Now you're finished!
