Kolam is a form of drawing that is drawn by using rice flour/chalk/chalk powder/white rock powder often using naturally/synthetically colored powders in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradhesh,Kerala and some parts of Goa, Maharashtra, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and a few other Asian countries. A Kolam is a geometrical line drawing composed of curved loops, drawn around a grid pattern of dots. In South India, it is widely practised by female Hindu family members in front of their houses. Kolams are regionally known by different names in India, Raangolee in Maharashtra, Hase and Raongoli in Kannada in Karnataka, Muggulu in Andhra Pradhesh,Golam in Kerala etc., More complex Kolams are drawn and colors are often added during Marriages, holiday occasions and special events.

To Color up the Kolam we use Flowers petals or stones or Dry grated coconut or Salt. If we select flower petals then use different flowers for different colors. If use stones or Dry grated coconut or Salt according to the required color mix the color powder with this. Here we use Crystal salt for our relation marriage function.

Step 1: Materials Required

1) Crystal Salt.

2) Color Powders as per requirement.

3) Chalk Piece (if u draw directly on ground)

Here we prepare the design in the chart at home and color it in the marriage hall (because the marriage hall is rental and time is very low for us before the function in marriage hall. So we draw it in home and stick it on the floor and color it)

Step 2: Prepare the Chart

Here i use a A1 Size Chart but it size is small when compare to marriage hall entrance. So I stick four chart together by using a tape on back side.

Step 3: Draw Your Design

Actually Rangoli or Kolam is a free hand art. But design we selected is a geometric art. So i use scale and rope to draw circle and line.

1) Calculate the radius from the center of the chart and divide it to 6.

2) Draw six circles with that value by the multiplication of the circle number. (For drawing bigger circles use a pencil in the center and tie a rope in it and tie a another pencil in the other end and hole one pencil at the center and draw the circle)

3) Then we want to device the circle in to 32 slices.

4) For that first draw the cross lines to the joint of the chart. Now the circle is device on to four equal slices.

5) Then use the scale find the distance between the line and circle intersect place. Divide the value with 2 and u put a dot at the center. Join the center and the dot. Like wise do it for two slices and it covers all the four slices.

6) Now the circle is 8 slices.

7) Like wise repeat the above steps to get 32 equal slices.
