Introduction: LP Record Clock

About: I love working with wood. I make bandsaw boxes and just lately ive got a lathe and now enjoy woodturning.

In this project for Instructables i will be taking an old LP and reusing it to make a clock.

My tips are how i use resin and get a bubble free finish.

Items needed for this project

1- old album no longer being used

2- epoxy resin

3- resin dyes

4- mixing cups

5- stir sticks

6- Clock kit with hands (check the centre hole on the album is the right size for the kits centre post, if not gently use a drill to make it the right size).

7- heat gun

8- blow torch

9- spirit level

10- Plastic sheet

Step 1: Getting Your Project Ready.

1- Put your Album over a plastic sheet to catch any resin i used 3 plastic cups to lift it off the plastic.

2- Use the spirit level to make sure the album is level this will avoid you losing resin running off.

Step 2: Get Resin Ready

1- I used epoxy resin on this project, firstly i wanted a base of black all over.

2 - Using a stir stick spread it all over the album.

3 - I used a heat gun to heat the resin making the resin flow over the project.

4- Use the blow torch (flame not touching the resin) once covered to burst any bubbles. this resin is self level so it will cover evenly.

5- Now decide what other colours you want to use and mix them you don't need a lot of resin for the next part.

Step 3: Start Adding Colour

1- Now once your colours are all mixed your ready to start your resin art be imaginative you cant go wrong.

2- Use the heat gun to move and blend the colours adding more colours as you wish.

3- Once you have finished adding all the colour and are happy with the result use the blow torch to pop any bubbles.

You should have a nice smooth shiny finish. Cover and leave overnight or until dry.

Step 4: Finishing

Once the resin has cured place clock kit through the centre hole and you are all finished.

Thank you if you enjoyed this project please vote for me in the contest. :-)

Even if I do like your creation, really, I'd like to know if that's possible with a transparent resin (it it exists!).
