Introduction: Leather Wrapped Handle

I made Darrow's razor from the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown. This is how I finished the handle.

Supplies

Gloves, Masking Tape, Sharp hobby knife, Spray Adhesive, 3D Printed Handle, Wrapping Material

Step 1: Template Prep

Cover the handle in masking tape, use long strips that go the full length. Make sure to overlap each strip of tape. Try to get it as smooth as you can but some wrinkles aren't a problem. Run your fingernail or other tool (I use the back of my hobby knife) around the edges of the raised portions, the crisper these lines are the better.

Step 2: Template Making

Carefully cut the tape along the seams of the raised portion, once you have cut the tape around a whole section carefully peel that section of tape off of the model to end up with a tape template of that section. Apply that tape template to the face of your wrapping material. Use the template to cut out a section of your wrapping material.

Step 3: Test Fit & Remaining Sections

Test fit your wrapping material as you go and trim if needed. Repeat for all other sections of the handle.

Step 4: Painting

Remove any remaining masking tape from the handle and paint all of the raised sections as well as the top and bottom flat portions.

Step 5: Glue on Wrapping Materials

Apply the spray adhesive evenly to the back of your wrapping material sections, do one section at a time and take your time to lineup your edges evenly. Use rubber bands or tightly wrap with masking tape to hold everything in place. Spray adhesive cures quickly. Once everything is dried you can trim and edge over hangs. If any edges start to lift you can use a small amount of gel super glue to resecure them.
