Introduction: Modern Decoration Piece

About: I’m a hobbyist with a lot of interests. Two of my favorite things are origami and coloring. I love writing on Instructables, especially because I believe that crafts should be shared.

Last week I went to Walmart to get some socks. They come packaged in packs of three and the socks are held by these white cardboard pieces. I was messing around a bit and found that I really liked the shape they formed when they were placed in a certain way, so I decided that I wanted it on my wall.

Step 1: Materials Needed

3 of these cardboard pieces
Markers
Pens
Printer paper
Tape
Also, the white background is the printer paper.

Step 2: Decorating

I didn’t want to mess up on the original pieces so I decided to trace and cut out printer paper copies. On each of the pieces of cut out paper, I drew 3 different patterns. The theme was geometric with the colors red, white, yellow, blue, and black. The first was inspired by one of my favorite artists, Pieter Mondrian. The piece is called “Composition with Red, Blue, and White.” The second is inspired by Raul Percic. The piece is called “Geom.” The last is one of my own creations.

Step 3: Taping

After making the covers, you’ll want to tape them to the original 3 pieces. I decided that I wanted my pieces to look glossy and "laminated." To do this, I first stuck tape to one side then cut off the pieces that were hanging off. Then I tried my best to make the tape line straight so that when I did the other side, everything would be fairly symmetrical. After this, I taped the cover piece to the original piece. I did this for all 3 pieces.

Step 4: Forming the Shape

You want to place them in a triangular shape where one end is on top of the next and the other end is below the one you had placed before. It’s a bit hard to explain but the pictures should clear things up.

Step 5: Securing the Craft

This is the final step and it's a pretty easy one. Simply flip the whole thing over and tape where the pieces are connected.
