Introduction: Molten Chocolate Frappuccino Recipe

About: Community Manager of Instructables - I am powered by rainbow and sugar!

Starbucks recently had a Molten Chocolate Frappuccino for a short time and I missed out on it, but I wasn't going to let that stop me from trying to make it myself. What makes up this tasty drink is chocolate, coffee, chocolate chips, and a chocolate espresso whipped cream topping. At first, I was going to make it without the special whipped topping, but then I decided to go all out and made my own chocolate whipped cream to go with it. I don't use espresso on in my whipped cream, but you can certainly add it in.

As you can probably tell, this frappuccino is like a combination of a Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino and Mocha Frappuccino.

Step 1: Supplies

This recipe is a single serving and makes about the equivalent of a 16oz Grande from Starbucks.

Ingredients:

If you don't want it as chocolatey, you can use less chocolate and more simple syrup to balance it out. I decided to go all out since it is called Molten Chocolate Frappuccino :)

Topping Suggestions:

Caffeine-Free Version:

Replace coffee with more milk.

Utensils:

  • Blender - I use a Magic Bullet at home, it's great for making individual drinks though doesn't blend quite as well as the Vitamix
  • Ice cube trays - small ice cubes make for even easier blending
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cups for serving
  • Straws

If you are going to pipe your own whipped cream on top you will need:

Step 2: Mix It and Top It

As usual, throw everything into the blender, and blend until the ice and chocolate chips are all broken up.

When it comes to topping it, you can do whatever you want and I made some suggestions in the supplies step.

What I did was, I started by drizzling chocolate on the inside sides of the glass. Since this is a molten chocolate frappuccino, it sounded right to me that there would be extra chocolate in the glass. Next, I poured in my frappuccino mix. I topped mine with my homemade chocolate whipped cream (I piped mine on, but you can just glob it on too) and chocolate shavings.

It can also be good to drizzle more chocolate on top. I decided not to since I drizzled inside the glass, but go all out; do everything!

Step 3: Enjoy

Enjoy that chocolatey goodness!

I don't even know. I think I lucked out there; usually, my piping is such a mess, but somehow this time it just worked out :)
