Introduction: Polymer Clay Mosaic Heart Pendant
Hi! This Instructable shows how to create a mosaic heart out of polymer clay that can be used as a pendant or charm. To see this in video form, please click the video above.
You will need:
-stylus or toothpick
-an eye pin
-tweezers (you could get by without these, but they'll make it a lot easier)
-translucent liquid sculpey (I use this to secure the eye pin, if you don't have it - that's ok)
Step 1: Prepare the Clay
Prepare a small piece of each color of clay you want to use for the mosaic tiles.
Also, get the clay you want to use for the heart. Set this one aside.
Flatten each of the tile colors into a thin layer. If you have a pasta machine, that would work great for this.
Once you've done that, bake these for a very short amount of time - just enough that they hold their shape.
Step 2: Create the Tiles
Cut these pieces into narrow strips.
Then, cut each narrow strip into tiny squares to create the tiles.
Step 3: Form the Heart
Next, form the heart shape. It doesn't have to be perfect, just a basic heart shape.
Step 4: Create the Mosaic
Start pressing the tiles into the heart, starting in the middle. I found it is easiest to pick up the tiles with the tweezers, place them where you want, then push them in with the stylus or toothpick.
Then, just add rows of tiles above and below the first row until the entire heart is covered.
Step 5: Add the Eye Pin
Press the eye pin into the back of the heart.
For extra security, I added translucent liquid sculpey over the eye pin. If you don't have translucent liquid sculpey, bend the eye pin slightly and stick it directly into the heart, instead of pressing it into the back.
Bake the clay, following the directions on the clay package.
Step 6: Optional: Add Glaze and Iridescent Powder.
If you want to, add a coat of glaze and iridescent powder to the heart.
Step 7: You're Done!
That's it, you're done! You've just created a polymer clay mosaic heart.
