Introduction: Pop Out Hearts Card or Hanging Decoration

First card shown uses just 1 pop out heart and second card shown with 3.
White and pink hanging design shown with 4 hearts made from printer paper,
and a upper red heart has 6 hearts made of card stock.

Step 1: Supplies

Paper can be printer weight (20lb), construction, or card stock (60lb) in Valentines colors
The number of sheets will be determined by size of hearts you make and how many you choose to use in your project.
Glue stick
Hanging thread
Optional: clothespins if glue is not quick drying

Step 2: Step 1 Fold and Trace

Fold paper in half, open it and fold it backwards along the same crease. This will make “popping out” the shapes easier.
Draw the cut and the fold lines on page with the center of the heart touching the creased edge. The solid lines are the cut lines and the dots show where the folds will be. I used marker here so you could see it more clearly, but use pencil so the lines won’t show and bleed through your project.

Step 3: Step 2 Cut and Crease

Cut out the outer heart on the outer line.
Cut the top curve and then the bottom straight part of the other 2 hearts. Be sure to leave a small part of paper between the upper and lower parts of the outline. Fold on crease lines – fold both forward and back.

Step 4: Step 3 Popping Out

Open at center fold and reverse the connector fold of the middle heart by pulling out of the outer heart as shown.  Crease well, then take the centermost heart and fold it back in towards the outer heart (if holding heart as shown in first picture - push little center heart up) creating an accordian fold pattern.

Step 5: Step 4 Glue the Parts

Put glue on the outermost heart ring (area identified by skinny red lines on photo).
Stack 2nd cutout over first, add glue to new top edge and continue till you have assembled the number of hearts you want to use for your project.

Step 6: Step 4 Make the Card

If making card, fold the “card body” piece of paper in half, and then glue the popout assembly to interior center.
Shown first with only 1 popout and again with 3.

Step 7: Step 5 Make the Hanging Decoration

Use an assembly of 4 or more of the pieces. Pull last piece around to glue to first piece.
Add thread or fishing line and when dry, hang.
