Raised garden beds are easy working and high output. To make a simple style raised garden bed not only of great fun but also save money and most of all, can make full use of your planting space.

Raised gardening beds have different joint designs, thus lead to different assembly procedure.

We here will show you some different joint ways of raised garden beds.

Step 1: Screw Joint

Cut the ends of board straight and you could joint ends of two boards by self tapping screws, this is easy and do not need any additional work. But drawback is you can only drill screws from one side, it is not so tight actually. We suggest install narrow laths on two ends of board first and then you could fast all screws from both sides and this will enable the wooden boards join together strong enough.

Step 2: Joint by Wooden Corner Posts

You can cut saying 2”x2” wooden corner poles same or slightly taller than height of boards and fix ends of boards to these corner poles from outside by screws. This way also workable and easy.

Step 3: Metal Pin Joint

If wooden boards are thick enough let’s say at least 1.2inch, you could design raised garde bed jointed by metal pin instead of screws.

First, get a metal pin with diameter 1/3-1/2 thickness of wood board.

Second, drill holes on ends of boards same diameter of metal pin. Distance between center of the hole to board end should be 1/2 thickness of board

Then cut 1/2 of end of the board off, width of the cut off part to be same as thickness of board.

Now, reverse one board and stack another one, insert metal pin through the holes.

If pin longer than height of board, it can be hampered into soil thus the garden bed will be fixed and will not move easily.

Step 4: Wood Pin Joint

If wall of the gardening bed is not very high, you can joint the four walls by wood pin. You can cut tenon on ends of one board and drill hole on them, cut slots on another board almost the same size as tenon.

Set up boards and insert the wooden pin through hole, it is ok. Now a simple raised vegetable planting bed built.

Step 5: Dovetail Groove Joint

This is a complicated design for garden planting beds, you need have special tooling to cut dovetail groove. Yet this is a unique design, make your garden bed stands out from others.

Step 1: cut four corner poles. Corner poles should be at least 3 times wide as thickness of garden bed wall, same height or a little higher.

Step 2: cut dovetail tenon on ends of wood board.

Step 3: cut dove tail mortise on corner poles, there will be two mortises on each pole.

Insert wall boards through corner poles mortise, then the garden bed is assembled, no screws needed.

By this way, you could also build a raised garden table.

Step 6: Free Stack Raised Garden Bed

Cut grooves on wooden boards in certain degree and depth, then you could stack one board on another to create a totally free of assembly tiered garden planter.
By this way, you could build square planter, wheel herb planter and pyramid planter.
