Hello Instructables.

In this Instructable i am going to show you how to turn an old plastic road works sign into a quirky table.

Its quick and easy and in my opinion the finished product looks pretty cool.

Step 1: What You Need

Materials

On old plastic road sign and I cant stress this enough DON'T GO STEALING ONE!
For the purposes of this project i had spotted this one weeks ago and as you can see from the cobwebs it had been there for some time.

Tools

A heat gun

Something to measure with (I'm Using a meter stick)

Something to mark out those measurements

Step 2: Clean It Up and Mark It Out

Straight forward enough, clean up your sign and then measure out the middle of each edge and mark it.

I could have cut off the straps that hold it to a traffic cone but i thought leaving them on just added to the character of it

Step 3: Heat It Up

Now this is the tricky-ish part.

Using the marks I hung the sign over the edge of a table using the edge of the table to act as a parallel between to the two points.

You may want to place something on the sign to weight it down

I then used the heat gun to slowly heat up along that line. moving the gun back and forwards at a steady speed on the top and along the bottom. dont go to slowly or you may burn the plastic. After a few minutes the edge starts to droop. I let it fall until it was almost at a right angle with the table (I wanted the "legs" to splay out a bit for more stability)

I repeated the same process for the 2nd leg but hung it as far onto the table as I could.

For the 3rd "Leg" I pretty much just held it by one of the other legs (making sure my had was well clear) and let it lean against the wall.

Step 4: Finished

And its done.

The whole project took me around 30 mins, including cleaning up the sign. The finished product is sturdy enough to hold the weight of a few object but couldn't hold the weight of a human.

There would be several ways to reinforce its structure but for this project I just wanted to keep it simple.
