Introduction: School Desk

What more do we use in school than our desk? The beginning of school has always been chaotic. But with the pandemic, new issues have arisen around the safety of students. With students walking around and going from class to class, germs can easily be transferred from one place to another. I wanted to create a desk that was mainly based for middle/high school students, since most of the time it's them having to switch classes. Therefore, I decided to add my own twist to the traditional design.

Step 1: Inspiration

I wanted to keep the traditional style of the school desk but add a few more features. I decided to add my own flare and thoughts on how we could improve the design with the student's safety in mind. I looked into the music stands and really liked how well compacted it was in a way where students wouldn't have to hold it up. I thought it should resemble the traditional classroom environment as well.

Step 2: Sketches

I wanted to add a disinfectant wipe dispenser, with the COVID-19 pandemic in mind, so students can have access to it without having to move too much and come in contact with other students to reduce the spread. A trash can was added to the bottom to also reduce contact. A problem that I have personally experienced and I am sure many others have had, is not having enough room to do work. With your textbooks, pencils, and worksheets, there is barley enough room to put your arms. To solve this problem I added a textbook stand with a page holder at the bottom so the pages would stay in place. Another add on was the bottom backpack holder. I personally wouldn't want my backpack to be accidentally stepped on so I added a slight tilt at the opening of the holder so your feet could rest easily and you can avoid getting your backpack dirty! Another feature added was a drawer on the side where teachers could put spare textbooks or pencils so students can easily access them if they had forgotten their items.

Step 3: 3D Designing

I made all these parts in one drawing but the drawers, paper, and pencils were made separately and put together through assembly.

Step 4: Rendering

Step 5: Animation

Step 6: Conclusion

Overall, I really enjoyed creating this design. I am very proud of this design because I can relate to how hard transitioning back to school is due to the pandemic and everyone to be safe as possible. Precautions need to be created to stop the spread. Creating this design opened up my imagination. I enjoyed creating something that was just a thought into reality! Doing this project was a really awesome experience and one that I will not soon forget! I hoped you guys enjoyed tagging along with my design process and thank so much for reading! Goodbye!
