Step 1: Easy and Simple 3D Printed Necklace

How I made this Necklace! First i created a 3D model in Tinkercad a 3D design website (its Free!) make sure that your 3D model is placed on the bottom otherwise it will print in the air and that’s not good. I made that mistake the first time i printed it out and we had to start over after about 20 minutes. Also make sure that your print is not below the Print bed otherwise it will just expel a lot of unnecessary filament.

The way i Made this was by making an abstract shape ie: a bunch of cubes put together to make a brooch for a necklace! You want to know your printer well, just so you’re prepared for any of it’s quirks while printing. Our Printer had a an exactly 11 second delay from when we would tell it something, as an example.

Step 2: Step 1. Design

Step one, is to make your brooch, it doesn’t have to be the most complex in the world it could be a plain old cube or pyramid.

Step 3: Step 2. Printing

Step two, is to add a loop at the top of your Brooch it can just be a simple circle with a hole in the middle, this is going to be what your string goes through i had to size mine down because it was too big. You should make your loop small but not microscopic.

Step 4: Step 3. Sanding

Step three,After printing you will need to take off the support at the base of your print this is easy anything that doesn’t fit, look smooth, or is part of the support that you can’t take off, is easily sanded off with sandpaper. Also you should sand all over the smooth areas so the paint sticks.

Step 5: Step 4. Painting

Step Four, next you can choose to paint your Print, i recommend washing it if you had to sand anything off so the paint sticks better. I recommend 2 layers of acrylic paint, in as many colors as you want! Then wait for it to dry.

Step 6: Step 5. Sealing

Step Five, after you paint it you might want to spray Acrylic clear coat to make sure the paint doesn’t chip then leave it for about a few hours or until the next day.

Step 7: Step 6. Stringing

Step Six, Finally you will want to String your Necklace i would personally not use twine or anything really itchy, so thick fishing line or plastic string works well i used nylon rope and it worked well. Make when you cut to leave about an inch extra to tie the end.
