Introduction: Simple DIY Ribbon Bookmark

Make a super easy, cute, and quick DIY ribbon bookmark with either a sewing machine or by hand. Great to make for fun or small gifts!

Supplies

-18 inches of ribbon
-Button
-Hairband
-Thread
-Needle and/or sewing machine

Step 1: Sewing on the Hairband

Pick one end of your ribbon and fold the end over about a 1/4 of an inch. Place the hairband at the end of the folded over section, and fold it over again. Then pin it in place. This is a great way to prevent fraying of the ribbon, and it keeps the ribbon secure. Next up is sewing the hairband in place. Using either a machine or by hand, sew across the ribbon twice, removing the pin slowly as you go.

Step 2: Hem the Other End

This is an easier step. All you’re doing for this step is hemming the other side so you can sew the button on later. Take the not sewed end and fold it over about a 1/4 in, and then fold it over again, so the “raw” end it tucked under itself. (This is basically the same step as the first one, but without the hairband.) Pin it in place, and then sew across it twice.

Step 3: Adding the Button

Finally it’s time to add the button. Sew the button on the end without the hairband, about and 1/8 of an inch away from the end of the ribbon. This will serve as the hook for the ribbon to latch onto. Once you’ve finished sewing the button on, you’re done! Enjoy the book mark!
