Introduction: Simple and Fast Dart-Style Paper Airplane (The Whirlwind)
This design I made myself and it is very similar to the basic dart, with 2 extra folds. It excels at distance and speed and will sometimes spin while in midair. It is fun to use outdoors where it will sometimes do spins and tricks if there is the right amount of wind. My difficulty: Easy. Time needed: Low
Step 1: Type of Paper
You will need typical A4 paper for this and only 1 sheet.
Step 2: Fold in Half
Start by folding the sheet in half hotdog style. Then unfold.
Step 3: Fold the Corners to the Center
Fold both the top left and the top right corners to the center like shown.
Step 4: Fold the Upper Corners
Now take both upper corners and fold them to the center.
Step 5: Folding the Sides in Half
This is one of the extra steps that make this plane different from the basic dart. Fold the left side onto the center line. Repeat with the right side.
Step 6: Fold in Half
Take the entire plane and fold it in half towards you. This should be easy because of the center crease.
Step 7: Making the Wings Pt. 1
Fold the slanted side down and line it up with the bottom of the body. Flip the plane over and repeat with the other side. Unfold enough to line the wings up with the body, as usual.
Step 8: Making the Wings Pt. 2
This is the 2nd extra step needed to make this and is one of the most crucial. Take the back corners of the plane and fold them diagonally toward the body of the plane about 3/8 of an inch (or 1 cm). Use the images if you are confused. Once done with both corners, stick these small flaps straight upward.
Step 9: How to Throw
You are done with the plane, now for the throwing. Hold the plane with your thumb and index finger near the middle. Throw it straight ahead or at a slightly elevated angle. Best when used outdoors when there is a slight breeze or no wind.
Step 10: Finish!
You are done! Remember that this plane is best used outdoors where it can do spins and tricks. If you made it, hit the "I Made It!" button.
