Introduction: Slytherin Bead Art
I obviously really like Harry Potter, so I decided to create a piece based on that. I'm one of those people who have taken a bunch of online quizzes to figure out my Hogwarts life and I've found that I am Slytherin through and through. I wanted to put a twist to this project, so rather than using a traditional medium, I chose to use beads.
Supplies
- Glass seed beads (I used size 12/0)
- Blank canvas
- Glue (I used tacky glue)
- Pencil
- Tweezers/pliers/whatever you want to use to apply those tiny beads!
Step 1: The Canvas
To begin, I painted the canvas black. You can paint this any color depending on what design you'd like, or just don't paint it at all.
Step 2: Draw the Design
I printed out a black and white copy of the Slytherin crest off of Google to make this easier. Then, I simply drew it onto the canvas with a pencil.
As you can see, I got ahead of myself and started the next step before I remembered to take a picture. My bad.
Step 3: The Glue
Here comes the fun part!
Get your glue and, using your drawing as a guide, squeeze a dollop onto the area where the beads will go.
Step 4: Beads and Lots of Patience
Finally, get your bead-placing utensil (I used inexpensive tweezers) and place the beads onto the area you glued.
There are 2 methods I used for this:
For the outlines and areas with more detail, it's better to carefully place the beads one at at time.
For the bigger areas where I just had to fill in open spaces, I dumped the beads onto the glue and moved them around with the tweezers until they looked presentable.
But, your choice.
Step 5: Repeat
Keep going until you finish the project.
You can also apply a layer of Mod Podge to make sure everything stays in place. I didn't do this step, so I don't know how well it'll work, but go ahead and give it a try.
